The Avante-Garde

“More than a hundred years ago some French bohemians decreed that the purpose of art was to shock the middle classes. It may have been a great idea back then. But these days the middle classes aren’t paying attention. They’re all on Jerry Springer or Ricki Lake, talking about their cross-dressing experiences or sex with the baby-sitter. Cutting-edge artists have to watch this stuff in despair and complain about the state of American culture even as they demand more grant money to do their cutting-edge art. In the future this spectacle of the middle classes shocking the avant-garde will probably become the textbook definition of Postmodernism.”

Humans…A Great Race

Every once in a while, something comes along that utterly restores my faith in human nature. This is one of them – one of the funniest and most uplifting things I’ve seen in a long while.

Star Wars Subway

MIA — Paper Planes Brentwood Redux

Whew! This M.I.A. satire has got an edge…but it’s rather beautifully spot-on (if you’ve never seen M.I.A. by the way, that’s not her – this isn’t one of those tongue-in-cheek self-satires)

MIA — Paper Planes Brentwood Redux – watch more funny videos

Jane Austen’s Fight Club

I can’t decide if this is more creepy or funny…

Hmm

End of Ze World

When I’m sad, I watch this. And it cheers me up.

Evgeni Plushenko – Sex Bomb

In the most blatant(and thus hilarious) piece of exhibitionism I’ve ever seen on the ice, Evgeni Plushenko delivers the goods and then some at the 2001 Worlds(ETA according to a commenter, this was his unjudged piece which makes sense but makes it only marginally less funny).
