Two Nivea Lotion reviews in one go.
First up, we have Nivea Essentially Enriched Daily Lotion for very dry, rough skin. I picked this up hoping it would be an effective, versatile lotion which would take care of the stubbornly dry skin on elbows and feet but also light enough to rub into my arms and legs and the rest of the body. It comes in the standard clean, blue and white Nivea packaging, and has a nice pump spout. The darker blue sets it apart from the more normal lotion; this is definitely the intenser stuff. It is packed with almond oil and sea minerals.
Verdict: Lose it. My main problem with this product is consistency; it comes out of the bottle in a very thick, white, creamy formula that has almost the exact thickness and texture of suntan lotion – and we all know how hard suntan lotion is to rub in. It’s greasy enough that I have to put extra effort into rubbing it in, and has a strong, though not unpleasant smell (again, similar to suntan lotion). It gives my skin a nice glow, but I didn’t notice any major difference in skin appearance or moisture after about a week of using this, and it didn’t handle the elbow rough spots. Overall, I don’t recommend this – it’s not a bad product, but unless putting on what feels like suntan lotion every day of your life is your thing, give it a miss.
Nivea Smooth Sensation Daily Lotion for Dry Skin. This one comes in a lighter blue bottle with the same spout top, and is a dream. The formula is much lighter and blends in with virtually one glide, nicely moisturizing my skin and giving it a light glow without the greasiness of the Enriched lotion. Made with shea butter, it “nourishes, revitalizes, and absorbs quickly” – and it really does. The scent is also lovely; light and fresh and a tiny bit like baby powder.
Verdict: Keep it! I use this almost everyday for my arms and legs. It’s a little too light to really take care of problem areas – for that I use CeraVe and other lotions – but as an enduring, pleasing everyday body lotion it fulfills all of my needs. After cycling through quite a few other daily lotions, this one’s my current keeper. Can be found at any drugstore.
