Makeup Review: Maybelline LineExpress Eyeliner

The quick version: don’t buy this.

Longer version: This eyeliner is supposed to “glide on smoothly with a single stroke.” That part of it is true – and it’s the only good thing about this product. I’m not a fan of pencil eyeliners in general – gel seems vastly superior – but it’s Maybelline and had good packaging with the pencil on one side and a smudger, so I bought it. For the record, I bought the “blackened sapphire,” and having used it twice I’m tempted to never use it again and to swap it on Makeupalley or something.

Application is fairly easy and the smudger helps you blend, but this runs and smears within literally two hours. I don’t even have to be outside – two hours is its maximum staying power. Unless you want your eyeliner to run into your eyeshadow, or your eyeliner to run enough under your eyelids to make it look like you’re wearing eyeshadow even if you’re not (which is what happened to me), then don’t buy this.  Stick with Covergirl Perfect Point Plus (also available in any drugstore), which doesn’t run at all, glides on even more smoothly, and given you even more control with its self-sharpening pencil and perfect point (no play on the title intended).
